Thoughts and things pt. 2

Truth? Isn’t it universally applicable? Wouldn’t such a thing suggest that there are no conditions or caveats? In our endeavor to understand what’s around us we’ve created so many conditions. Now we should let go of them in search of truth?

How about the bit about trust, or belief systems? If we trust that something is true, we might trust in an outcome regardless of its’ validity. To quote the article I mentioned in my two previous posts:

Critical thinking is, in short, self-directed, self-disciplined, self-monitored, and self-corrective thinking. It presupposes assent to rigorous standards of excellence and mindful command of their use. It entails effective communication and problem solving abilities and a commitment to overcome our native egocentrism and sociocentrism.

To paraphrase: It assumes a standard of thorough excellence and mindful command of its’ use. To entail effective communication and problem solving abilities and a commitment to overcome our natural separateness and inclination to be better than what’s different. The first sentences can be likened to skills: to aspire, to discipline yourself, hold yourself fully accountable and correct your own thinking. Each and every one of these is a personal responsibility. As such, care for the mind is up to the individual.

No matter how many influences come into our lives and motivate us, once again, inspiration is a two way street: The receiver must act in order to be inspired. Luckily, we can find people who resonate with what we seek to achieve, and what we value most very easily. An expert who achieves something can shorten the learning curve of the thing we aim to achieve. If they stayed true to a value, perhaps their methods did so as well.

According to the article on critical thinking, commitment to these will have an impact on the shape of our lives. According to developing information before and after its’ inception, this is correct. Can you find a place in this where you can assist yourself in finding an answer? Is there a mentor or someone you’d like to mentor you who has these skills in check already? Does any status truly reflect any of these values alone?

How do we avoid mental stagnation, anyway?
